Julie Wolf is a music producer, multi-instrumentalist, composer, music director and educator. She is part of a vibrant, far-flung creative community that includes musicians, composers, recording engineers & mixers, playwrights, directors, actors, dancers, choreographers, poets, filmmakers, activists, educators and rascals.

Over the last 30+ years, Julie has performed on hundreds of critically acclaimed recordings, toured internationally, appeared at music venues and on festival stages around the world and played on national television and radio programs including Late Night with Stephen Colbert, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Show with Conan O’Brian, Late Night with David Letterman, The View, VH1 Hard Rock Live, Sessions at West 45th Street, Australia’s Studio 22, NPR’s Mountain Stage and E-Town. She has collaborated with Ani DiFranco, Carly Simon, Maceo Parker, Indigo Girls, Bruce Cockburn, Jill Sobule, Joan Baez, Dar Williams, Eliza Gilkyson, John McCutcheon, Cris Williamson, Allison Miller, Wayne Horvitz, Robin Holcomb, Todd Sickafoose, Jenny Scheinman and bunch of other amazing musicians.

Based in Oakland, California, Julie specializes in the creative midwifery of music production, helping artists get to their most true, authentic expression. Recent producing highlights include Jill Sobule’s F*ck7thGrade Original Cast Recording; Allison Miller/Boom Tic Boom’s Gltter Wolf (mentioned on multiple Best of 2019 Jazz lists) and Rivers In Our Veins; Katie Dahl’s Seven Stones; Deidre McCalla’s Endless Grace (mentioned on multiple Best of 2022 songwriter and folk lists); Bruce Cockburn’s Bone on Bone (winner of 2018 JUNO Award for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year); Dillbilly’s Chaparral; Just Like A Woman duet with Carly Simon (from Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan). Upcoming releases in the works include Allison Miller’s newest Boom Tic Boom recording and projects with jazz vocalist/improvisor Rhiannon and singer-songwriter duo Claudia Russell & Bruce Kaplan.

Sometimes you can find Julie in the wild, Music Directing musical theatre! Most recently: Wild Project’s Drama Desk nominated/NYTimes Critics Pick production of Jill Sobule/Liza Birkenmeier’s F*ck7thGrade. She has also worked with San Francisco’s ACT; Berkeley Repertory Theatre; California Shakespeare Theater; Actors Theatre of Louisville; La Jolla Playhouse and Julie received an L.A Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical Direction for her work in the CTG/Kirk Douglas Theatre 2015 production of Todd Almond’s Girlfriend. She composes for film, dance and theatre––her original music for the 2009 documentary Sweet Crude was nominated for Best Original Score at the Maverick Movie Awards and received special mention in Variety.

Julie teaches music production workshops and gives clinics, private lessons/mentoring sessions.
